"Emotional intelligence" is ability to perceive , control and evaluate own's and other emotions.
Now is there any co-relation between "informed choice" and emotional intelligence ?
In contemporary digitalised world where information disseminate like anything and where we are being swamped with information mix of both rhetoric and reality , we often find ourself in paradoxical situation .In this situation some psychologist suggest that emotional quotient (E.Q.) scales equal or even higher than that of the intelligence quotient (I.Q.) .
Awareness of emotion and ability to enable emotion to informed reasoned action is what is necessary for emotional intelligence i.e. emotional intelligence involves integrating "head and heart". Now this is where many of us falter. As one of many sarcasm on love goes on- " Love is a hole in the heart ". Most often we let our heart dominate head.
It is not that the experience of emotion alone leads people to wise action. After all emotions wise or not , exists in everyone. What matters is how me make sense of our emotional experience and how we use it is makes the difference.
Now my main idea of bringing in emotional intelligence in shaping our choice is because many of us tends to be very reactive ,quick in getting judgemental at events occurring i.e we give free run to heart . As a result of which head takes back seat, reasoning suffers and so choice is half baked which has very high probability to falter in near future.
But unlike intelligence quotient (I.Q.) , good thing with emotional intelligence is that we can develop and sublime it if we let head follow heart doggedly.By not rushing to judgement without knowing all the facts , do a self-evaluation by careful examination of environment , by letting others views pour in and so on....
So with gradual development of emotional intelligence, we can make better choice in life and hence can lead more meaningful life which will enrich our society as a whole in long run after all all we want is happy environment of ourself and our loved one.....
P.S.- "If faith in ourselves had been more extensively taught and practiced, I am sure a very large portion of the evils and miseries that we have would have vanished- Swami Vivekananda " .
